Careers
Small team. Real responsibility.
We are building an energy trading business from Muscat. If you want your judgement to matter from the first month rather than the fifth year, this is a good place to be.
Why here
What makes this different.
Large trading houses offer scale and a well-worn training programme. What they rarely offer, early on, is proximity to the actual decision.
Here you will sit within earshot of the people pricing the cargo, chartering the vessel and approving the credit. You will see the whole transaction — origination through to settlement — instead of one slice of it. When something goes wrong at three in the morning, you will be part of fixing it, and you will learn more from that week than from a year of training modules.
The trade-off is real and we will not hide it: this is a demanding business with genuine pressure, unsociable hours when a cargo is moving, and no room for work that is nearly right. If that appeals rather than deters, read on.
What we look for
Fewer credentials, more character.
We hire from a range of backgrounds — shipping, banking, engineering, refining, accountancy and straight out of university. What the good ones have in common is rarely on the CV.
Numeracy under pressure
Comfort with arithmetic that matters — spreads, freight economics, blend ratios — done quickly and correctly while a counterparty waits on the line.
Ownership
People who chase the loose end rather than logging it. If a document is wrong, you fix it; you do not forward it onwards and hope.
Straightness
You tell a counterparty bad news early. You raise your own mistake before someone else finds it. This is non-negotiable in a business built on trust.
Curiosity about the physical
Genuine interest in how a refinery runs, why a grade prices where it does, and what actually happens on a jetty at 2am.
Resilience
Positions move against you. Vessels are delayed. Deals collapse late. The job is to stay calm, solve it and come back the next day.
Communication
Clear written English, clear phone manner, and the ability to explain a complicated situation simply to someone who needs to make a decision.
Where you could sit
The functions we hire into.
-
01
Trading & origination
Building producer and buyer relationships, pricing cargoes, and structuring spot and term supply. Commercial judgement and a long memory for who does what.
-
02
Operations & chartering
Nominating vessels, managing voyages, handling inspection and documentation, and keeping laytime under control. The engine room of a physical trading house.
-
03
Risk & analytics
Measuring exposure, running hedges, and building the market analysis that tells the desk what is actually happening rather than what it hopes is happening.
-
04
Trade finance & treasury
Structuring letters of credit and working capital, managing banking relationships, and keeping the cash cycle moving.
-
05
Compliance & legal
Counterparty diligence, sanctions screening and contract review — with the standing to stop a trade when it needs stopping.
Early careers
Starting out.
We are committed to developing Omani talent into senior commercial roles, and we would rather train someone properly than hire a ready-made trader who has learned bad habits elsewhere.
- Graduate placements. A rotation through operations, risk and the trading desk, so you understand the whole transaction before specialising. You will be given real work, supervised closely.
- Internships. Structured placements for students in their penultimate or final year, with a defined project rather than filing.
- Mentoring. Every junior joiner is paired with a senior colleague who is accountable for their development, not just their output.
No prior energy experience is required for these routes. A quantitative degree helps but is not essential; we have hired excellent people from law, languages and engineering.
The process
How we hire.
Deliberately short. We would rather make a decision quickly than keep good candidates waiting through six rounds.
-
Step 1
Application
Send a CV and a short note explaining why this business and this role. The note matters more than the CV formatting.
-
Step 2
Introductory call
A conversation with the hiring manager about your background and what the role actually involves day to day. Ask hard questions here.
-
Step 3
Working session
A practical exercise relevant to the role — a freight calculation, a blend problem, a counterparty assessment — discussed with the team rather than marked in silence.
-
Step 4
Final meeting & offer
A meeting with senior management, then a decision. We aim to come back within a week of the final stage, either way, with feedback.
